SAVING MONEY TIP #8: HOW TO LIVE WITHOUT A CAR AND HOW TO RENT A CAR FOR CHEAP ON THE WEEKENDS

If you live in a pedestrian friendly metro area, then you may not need to own a car out right. You have the metro trains that will take you to work and back; but then this question comes up. How do you get around on the weekends to locations where the train nor the bus goes if you are pressed for time? I will let you in on a little secret on our saving money blog, the digerati mind.

This is what you do, you rent a car just for the weekend! Isn’t that expensive? No, if you use sites such as HOTWIRE and PRICELINE.COM

I find both sites to be very useful when it comes to renting a car at a good price:

Take a look at my Hot-wire search for a car rental in Washington, Dc area for this upcoming weekend.

The best part is that once I am done with the weekend; I can drop the car off without wondering about car costs and all that comes with owning a vehicle. Not bad, right? Here are the numbers, owning a car on a payment would have cost me on an average

Car payments: $295 insurance $100 take into account gas for the car $60 a week; fees associated with owning a car: approximately $300 a year (bear in mind that this is an estimation); why bother owning one?
